There are many reasons for an organ to lose it’s mobility: physical traumas, surgeries, sedentary lifestyles, infection, bad diet, poor posture and pregnancy and delivery can all contribute to the stasis and inefficiency of the internal organs.

Visceral manipulation enhances the normal mobility and tissue motion of the organs of the visceral system. Hypertonicity (tightness), displacement, and adhesions can all cause organs to work against each other, creating chronic irritation and fixed, abnormal points of tension. The visceral organs are dependent on their ability to move freely in the visceral cavity so they can function properly and efficiently. When they are pulled out of their effective positions, they cease to function properly. By freeing each organ to work compatibly with the others, a therapist can potentially alter and improve the structure and functioning of the entire body.

“Viscera” relates to the internal organs of the body, such as the liver, kidneys and intestines. Visceral Manipulation (VM) is a gentle manual therapy that aids your body’s ability to release restrictions and dysfunction. VM, does not focus solely on the site of pain or dysfunction, but evaluates the entire body to find the source of the problem.

Visceral Manipulation (VM) was developed by world-renowned French Osteopath and Physical Therapist Jean-Pierre Barral who continues to train hundreds of practitioners of the craft each year.
