Meet Karen
Since 1989, I’ve been dedicated to the study and practice of therapeutic massage as a path to optimal health and wellness—for both my clients and myself. My training in Shiatsu and Thai massage, along with personal experience, has shown me that true well-being extends beyond the physical body to include mental, emotional, and spiritual balance. I believe the body has powerful self-healing capabilities, and that massage therapy can create the right environment to support that healing.
While living in Tokyo, I began my Shiatsu studies and was introduced to traditional Eastern healing philosophies. In 1991, I traveled to Buntautuk Traditional Hospital in Chiang Mai, Thailand, where I completed an intensive three-week course in ancient Thai massage. This immersion in hands-on techniques and holistic principles continues to shape my approach today.
After returning to the U.S., I enrolled at the Boulder School of Massage Therapy, completing 1,250 hours of training and earning my Certificate of Massage Therapy in 1995. My passion for continued learning led me to the Colorado School of Healing Arts in 2009, where I completed advanced training in Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), following the Vodder method developed by Drs. Emil and Estrid Vodder.
I later expanded my work by studying Visceral Manipulation with The Barral Institute under Jean-Pierre Barral, a leading French osteopath and physical therapist.
Since 1996, I’ve maintained a private massage therapy practice and, in 2004, I founded Integrative Bodyworks. I’ve conducted nearly 10,000 therapy sessions and remain committed to delivering compassionate, effective care. I take pride in my strong listening skills and ability to quickly build rapport, helping clients feel safe, seen, and supported in every session.
